Frank Roberts was a visionary who served as one of the most prolific ambassadors the community of Montrose has ever known. In 1996 the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce established the Frank Roberts Award to be given to individuals for outstanding involvement and concern for the community - to honor the spirit, dedication and hard work that contribute to the growth and development of the Montrose-Verdugo City area, and to commemorate the incomparable example set by its namesake - Frank Roberts.
In 1942, Frank Roberts came to Montrose and worked for his father as a Realtor. In 1947 he married Elinor Wolters. They owned and operated The Candle Tree in Montrose from 1976 until retirement in July 2000.

His accomplishments included: serving on the Board of Zoning Adjustment for the city of Glendale for an unheard of two terms; four years on American Red Cross Board of Directors; 10 years as president of the Montrose Shopping Park Association; 1984 President, Director and now CEO of the Montrose-Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce; 40-year members of Rotary; chairman and founder of the annual Glendale-Montrose Christmas Parade; lifetime membership in PTA of Crescenta Valley High School; two-year member of the Los Angeles County Watershed Commission; recipient of the prestigious Burtis E. Taylor Award from the Board of Education. Roberts family includes three sons: Jim Gary, Paul and five grandchildren. He was a longtime resident of La Crescenta.
His spirit and memory will always be the "heart" of Montrose.
